Prepping for your Wedding Day
DOS:
Designate a peaceful area for hair & makeup, ideally with plenty of natural light, a table & stools. Keeping this area clutter free will also make for incredible getting ready photos!
Tell your friends & family to have no more than 1-2 reference photos available of looks they're loving. Doing so helps with clear communication & a faster application process!
Groom your eyebrows & take care of any unwanted facial hair 3 days beforehand. Makeup will not adhere properly to freshly waxed skin & this will also allow any potential irritation to calm down before your big day.
Drink plenty of water leading up to & on the day of your wedding!
Exfoliate from head to toe! Professional strength chemical peels are fantastic during the months prior, but keep the exfoliation gentle & the hydration high in the days leading up to your wedding. Better yet, schedule a hydrafacial the week of (which takes care of both)! The night before your wedding, skip actives (like retinol/retin-a, alpha hydroxy acids + beta hydroxy acids).
Have your bridal party, attendees &/or mums bring a touch-up lippie with them on your day (unless they plan on purchasing a Jacquie K. one)!
Have everyone arrive with clean, dry hair (washing the day or night before is perfect) & nothing on their skin, plus tell them to eat & brush their teeth 15-30 minutes before it’s their time to sit down in our chair! We’ll be on a tight timeline on the day of & this ensures no time spent waiting in between services for us.
DON'TS:
Try out a spray tan for the first time the day before your wedding. If you end up unhappy with the result, you're left with little to no time for fixes & plenty of time spent scrubbing your skin raw! Opt for a test run a month beforehand instead & feel free to ask me for my favourite spray tan artists in the Ottawa & Prince Edward County areas!
Forget to relax! Have a bubble bath the night before, do some yoga the morning of, read a feel-good book, eat some great food - you get the gist. This will allow you to completely unwind & enjoy the getting ready process. It’s also a great idea to have your maid of honour handle important phone calls & requests while you’re getting your hair + makeup done, so all that’s left to do is breathe & enjoy your last hours before becoming a Mrs.!
